KONE industry leader among top companies in CDP reporting
Press Release Published 10.31.2012
KONE Corporation, press release, October 31, 2012
KONE achieved a commendable score of 90 out of 100 in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), rising from 83/100 in 2011. A high score indicates good internal data management and understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company.
The reporting is based on the real achievements KONE has made to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and KONE's score has risen for three straight years. It was also included in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), which lists the top 10 percent of the 260 companies included in the CDP Nordic report. This is the second year running that KONE has been counted as one of the leading companies in the annual survey.
"Environmental excellence is a joint effort of our employees around the organization as well as our partners, and I want to thank all who have contributed to this success," said Hanna Uusitalo, Environmental Director at KONE.
KONE's long-term environmental objectives are to further improve the eco-efficiency of its solutions, modernize existing elevators and escalators to make them more energy-efficient, and to further reduce the environmental impact of its operations - especially its carbon footprint.
In addition to carbon disclosure, the CDP evaluates companies on their performance for mitigating climate change on a scale of A to E. Scores from A to B are considered high performance. With a B score for the third year in a row, KONE's results for the year bested those of other companies in the elevator and escalator industry.
"We are on the right path and our achievements are also acknowledged by external stakeholders. Our CDP results have improved year by year and we are clearly leading the way in our industry," Uusitalo said.
The Carbon Disclosure Project is an independent not-for-profit organization that aims to drive businesses and cities towards reducing their greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable water use. In its Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index the CDP features companies with the most professional approach to climate change information disclosure practices.
